- You must have completed secondary school education (High School Diploma) or equivalent of Canadian Grade 12 education. In the Philippines, this is 2 years of College or University (72 units).
- You must have at least 12 months experience in caring for children, elderly or person(s) with physical impairment.
- If you have a diploma as a nurse or teacher, you may apply as a live-in nanny/caregiver without previous experience. However, for those with a few months’ experience, it will be easier to find employment and to obtain a work permit.
- Canada is a bilingual country, ie, English or French. You must be able to understand and communicate with your employer and with many outside parties (doctors, emergency, sales persons, government offices, etc...). Language skills are very important because some offices will use it as a reason for refusal. It is important that you can express yourself and understand what is being said.
- You must be willing to live in the household of your employer.
